The Emba Swop Shop is a community development project started by the Secunda Junior Engineers in 2013. It is based on the model of a recycle swop shop which has been used in other projects in the country. The basic concept is that children bring recyclable materials, we weigh the materials and provide them with points based on the value of the materials. The children can then use these points in our shop to purcase basic necessities.

Mission

This project has three key impact areas:
The youth
We believe in the potential of young people. We aim to help them realise their potential by teaching them economic skills like saving and trading. We also empower them to take responsibility and ownership of their future.
The Environment
Waste is a major challenge in South Africa and the rest of the world. Uncollected, this waste negatively impacts the environment. Valuable recyclables that are not removed from waste streams create an unnecessary burden on our already strained landfill sites.
Basic Necessities
While achieving our other goals we also provide basic necessities such as toiletries, school supplies, non-perishable foodstuffs and simple toys.
